Parallels: Investigations of Geometry and Gesture

February 27, 2014 - March 22, 2014

Reception: February 27, 5:00–8:00 p.m.

Materiality, geometry and textural variation inform the work of these New England artists. While some are primarily inspired by the unpredictable qualities of nature, all these artists explore the tension between precise design and the subjective experience of perception. Their forms push the boundaries of painting and printmaking by incorporating various media. The transience of dream, humor and performance becomes concrete in the work of Laurel Sparks, Nona Hershey and Juan Jose Barboza-Gubo. Constructions by James Cambronne and Roger Tibbetts render fleeting and contingent forms, while Wilson Harding Lawrence's work deconstructs form and questions perception of space. – Sara Mandel Picard.
