The Kimono

December 13 - January 31

Bridal Kimono from the Heian period.
This exhibition offers a firsthand overview of the modern Japanese Kimono, a tradition that was established during the Heian period (794-1192 CE). The collection on view samples the breadth of the Kimono on a formal aesthetic level, taking into consideration color, form, and texture and their cultural interpretations. Curated by Hiromi Mikki Lima of the Japan Language and Cultural Center of Rhode Island, the exhibition is complemented by programming celebrating the uses and functions of the Kimono in Japanese culture.

This exhibition is a collaboration with the Rhode Island College Unity Center and its director, Aaron Bruce, and the College's Asian Student Association.

Reception: December 13, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
