Picnic is a three-act play written by William Inge, the author of Bus Stop and Come Back, Little Sheba. Set in a small town in Kansas, Picnic details the lives of "ordinary" Americans, from hopeful widows and embittered spinster to idealistic teenagers and restless wanderers.

"Having one good play to his credit, William Inge now has another play, Picnic...and memorable though Come Back Little Sheba was three seasons ago, Picnic is a notable improvement." - NY Times.

Tommy's grades start to slip, which keeps him from playing in the big game. Connie eventually finds out Tommy really loves her and devises a plan to win him back and to get him back on the field.
