LOL Comedy Series at Rhode Island College Begins April 3
The LOL Spring Comedy Series, sponsored by the Office of Student Activities at Rhode Island College, will feature four comedians known for appearances in a variety of venues, ranging from Comedy Central and "Last Comic Standing" to late-night television shows.
The series will feature Michelle Buteau on April 3, Erin Jackson on April 10, Marina Franklin on April 16 and Jenny Slate on April 24.
All of the shows will be held in Sapinsley Hall at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online, or at the Center Box Office in Roberts Hall, 456-8144.
Buteau recently made her late-night stand-up debut on George Lopez’s “Lopez Tonight,” performing numerous sketches as the Barrio Mom and Neutrogena Vega. She also took part in Lopez’ “Viva la Risa” tour. Buteau has appeared on NBC's “Last Comic Standing.” She was featured on Comedy Central's “Premium Blend” as well as on Paramount Comedy Network's “The World Stands Up.” Buteau was a favorite at the Bumbershoot Arts Festival and HGTV‘s “25 Worst Mistakes” series. She has also shared more then her opinions on MTV‘s “Walk of Shame” and the Oxygen Network's “Kiss & Tell” series. The comedian is currently a panelist on “Big Morning Buzz Live” and isa cast member of VH1's “Best Week Ever.”
Jackson is armed with a megawatt smile, an engaging presence and a unique perspective. She made a name for herself at colleges, corporate events and comedy clubs across the country and has garnered national attention with performances on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham.” Jackson was a semifinalist on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and was a featured writer and performer for TBS’ “Bitcom” series. Jackson has also made several appearances on “The Bob and Tom Show.” She was invited by HBO to open for Bill Maher at the tapings for his latest HBO special and recently served as the warm-up comedian for BET’s “Black Girls Rock! Awards.”
Franklin is emerging as one of the hottest stars in the comedy scene today. Whether she's talking about her long list of ethnically diverse boyfriend choices, or her confusing white/black experiences as a child, she always comes out ahead with her razor-sharp humor. Her numerous television appearances include “Chapelle’s Show,” NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” VH1 Oxygen’s “Girls Behaving Badly,” “Showtime at the Apollo” and Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend.” Franklin routinely performs across the country at comedy clubs and universities and has appeared at the Montreal and the New York Underground Comedy Festivals, she was also a recent correspondent for “The Jay Leno Show.”
Slate, an actress, comedian and author, is best known as the creator of the “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On” short films, which spun-off into a children's book. Slate was cast in the HBO comedy series “Bored to Death,” as Stella, the stoner girlfriend to Jason Schwartzman. She was also a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” and had a recurring role as Liz B. on the Comedy Central sketch series “Kroll Show.” She is half of the comedy duo, Gabe and Jenny, and has appeared on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” in his sketch “7th Floor West.” In 2009 Slate presented her one-lady show “Jenny Slate: Dead Millionaire” to sold-out audiences in New York and Los Angeles.
