Dorsey Named Little East Conference Rookie of the Year



Rhode Island College freshman Jaimee Dorsey was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Year for her performance this season. Dorsey was named the Little East Conference Women’s Track Rookie of the Week seven times this year. She was also the league’s women’s cross country Rookie of the Year in the fall.

Dorsey, of East Greenwich, R.I., was one of two individuals to qualify for the 2013 NCAA Div. III Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 8 and 9. After posting a time of 56.52 in the preliminaries of the 400m, to advance to the finals, Dorsey recorded a time of 56.61, to finish fourth among eight competitors en route to earning All-American honors. Meanwhile, Dorsey was a member of the 4x400 relay team that finished 10th overall at the NCAAs, with a time of 3:54.86.

Prior to that, Dorsey took second in the 60m with a program-record time of 7.89, and placed third in the 200m with a record-breaking time of 25.77 at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on March 2. A weekend earlier, Dorsey finished fifth in the 400m with a record-breaking time of 56.31 at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 23.

She was the N.E. Champion in the 400m, after finishing in first place with a time of 57.87, and earned All-New England honors in the 200m with a third place finish and a time of 25.88 at the 2013 N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 16. Dorsey also finished ninth in the preliminaries of the 55m dash (7.43).

Dorsey earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events, as she was the Alliance Champion in the 400m (57.06) and also captured the LEC title by finishing second overall in both the 55m with a season-high time of 7.34 and the 200m (25.96) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 10.

She finished first in the 400m (57.95), second in the 200m (26.11) and fourth in the 60m (7.93) at the Tufts University Stampede Invitational on Feb. 2. She finished 22nd in the 400m (57.42) and 31st in the 60m (8.09) at the Boston University Terrier Invitational on Jan. 26. Dorsey placed first in the 400m (58.29) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 19. She finished first in both the 800m (2:28.44) and the 55m (7.63), while also placing fifth in the long jump (3.95m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 12.

Dorsey finished first in the 200m (26.54), second in the 55m (7.45) and fourth in the long jump with a season-high mark of 4.80m at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 5. She placed third in the 400m (58.86) and 12th in the 55m (7.37) at the Harvard Open on Dec. 8, and also helped lead the 4x440m relay team to a sixth place finish and a program-record time of 4:08.40. Dorsey finished second in the 800m with a program-record time of 2:23.18 and fourth in the 60m (8.14) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 1.

Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s Anchorwomen tied for 29th place (36 teams) with a score of 4.0 at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 22-23. Prior to that, RIC finished fifth (26 teams) with a score of 44.0 at the N.E. Division III Championships on Feb. 22 and 23. The Anchorwomen placed fourth (10 teams) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 10 with a score of 86.0 and placed third in the Little East (six teams) with a score of 93.0.
