Office of Academic Support and Information Services

From orientation to graduation, the mission of OASIS is to help students thrive academically, to challenge them to achieve excellence, and to prepare them for the rigors and excitement of life beyond Rhode Island College. We partner with students to ensure success through mentoring and sharing of expertise.  As the largest campus resource providing comprehensive academic support, we endeavor to foster independent learning, academic success, and personal growth in all individuals.

In an effort to further our students’ academic success, we are piloting an exciting new early alert program, SAILS (Student Assistance and Intervention for Learning Success).  In the pilot we are partnering with the instructors of our First Year Writing 100 classes to promote and increase academic persistence, retention and success by intervening early in the semester with students who are demonstrating behaviors that are likely to result in poor performance in their writing classes. We anticipate expanding the reach of this program in the fall.

Along with our SAILS program, OASIS continues to offer academic tutoring in partnership with academic departments (in person and online) for writing, math, accounting, biology, psychology, and many more subjects; we provide workshops focused on learning skills and test preparation; we continue to provide one-on-one academic advisement to our incoming Exploring Majors, and ELED-IM and ECED-IM, and we facilitate New Student Orientation for all incoming students.
