Film Studies Program

The interdisciplinary liberal arts program in film studies offers students the opportunity to work on mastering the art of filmmaking and explore the history of all kinds of cinema from an international perspective.

Students interested in filmmaking select from ten different production courses ranging from screenwriting to documentary to animation to sound design.

Recent critical studies courses have focused on such topics as African-American cinema, the avant-garde, coming-of-age films, contemporary Chinese cinemas, Walt Disney, film music, John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, the Hollywood studio system, melodrama, Russian/Soviet cinema, and the Western.
