First-Year Students

First-Year Convocation – Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Freshman check-in at 12 noon on the Quad near the library
Convocation is from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (free period)

All freshmen are expected to attend First-Year Convocation. Sponsored by Academic & Student Affairs, the program is designed to welcome you to RIC’s academic community and give you an opportunity to connect with faculty in your field of interest – all in an informal and entertaining setting.  Bring your RIC ID so you can be “swiped in” (and be eligible for a prize).

We’ve had special RIC silicone wrist bands created for the convocation for first-year students and faculty to make it easy for you to identify and connect with one another. Pick yours up at the stations set up at the convocation site between 12 noon and 12:30 p.m. on the 2nd.

RIC’s official school colors are gold & white, with burgundy as an accent color. However, each School has its own designated field of study color used by colleges and universities across the country.

White:
Faculty of Arts & Sciences (FAS)
Light blue:
Feinstein School of Education & Human Development (FSEHD)
Apricot:
School of Nursing (SON)
Taupe:
School of Management (SOM)
Citron:
School of Social Work (SSW)
Burgundy:
Undeclared majors

We’ll have volunteers on hand (and signs) to help you get the right wrist band (or bands if you’re a double major). If you’re not sure which School includes your major, here’s a link to a list of RIC’s five schools: http://www.ric.edu/academics/schools.php

Following the first half of the program, use your wrist band as your ticket to for RIC’s signature ice cream treat created by Donovan Dining Center. Have pictures taken with your friends which we’ll save for your senior year and take part in RIC’s academic good luck tradition.  Here’s where you’ll also make some great faculty connections.

See you there!
